Love is a sweet, sweet wine--I know
For I have drunk too deep of it,
Though not a bit my fill.
The pleasures came, my head grew light,
I made myself a fool.
I laughed, and the world laughed at me--
And when it ended, she left me, alone,
Stumbling home, alone,
I vomitted bitter tears of sorrow, sadness, longing, loss.
I cried, and I cried alone.
And when I woke, a headache in me throbbed
That I might not forget my whilom joys,
And in its steady beat these words rang clear:
"The Joy is worth the Pain."
