Welcome to Washington University's student chapter of the IEEE!
IEEE@WashU's mission is to provide members and students with electrical and computer engineering resources outside of the classroom, including information about joining the national IEEE organization. We serve to communicate electrical engineering students' concerns to the faculty, as well as other representative engineering organizations at WashU.
Working alongside the national IEEE and the Electrical and Systems Engineering Department, we host lectures, competitions, projects, and field trips to further the depth of the engineering education received at Washington University. Headed by Jeffrey Feiereisen, David Pilla, and Jeremiah O'Driscoll, the focus design project for the 2009-2010 school year is the redesign of the Vertigo Dance Floor to make it more portable, efficient, cheaper, and fun.
Our efforts at creating the new Verdigo Dance Floor (VDF 2.0) have begun! As of April 10, we've discussed this project with Dr. Nehorai, Chair of the ESE Department, Dr. Richter, Research Associate, and Dr. Min, IEEE@WashU Advisor. The project will now be pursued as Independent Study from students of any relevant major (EE, CoE, CS, ME) . We have begun plans on new controller boards and tested LEDs and housing alternatives. For more information regarding the developments of this project, please contact David Pilla at dgp3@cec.wustl.edu.
The floor debuted at Vertigo, the All-school Dance party / Rave hosted by EnCouncil on November 12, 2005. Since then, it has appeared at Dance Marathon, Chaminade Highschool, various fraternity parties, Vertigo 2006, and CPC Happy Hour. Pictures from Vertigo 2006 are available here.
IEEE invites you to make your own animations for the dance floor. With its upcoming appearance at EnFormal on April 6, 2007,students will have the opportunity to see their animation in use!
WashU IEEE is currently undergoing a restructuring! We're actively recruiting new members and developing over a dozen new programs for students to network, learn, and develop skills relevant to IEEE's goals. If you are interested in taking a leadership role on campus, join us in preparing WashU for the many new opportunities ahead. Joining the mailing list, by sending an e-mail to ieee at cec.wustl.edu or visiting the members page
In Fall of 2010, we will begin engaging all engineering students, especially the new freshmen class, through dozens of events. Check out our events page to get a taste of what's to come!
